Gratitude, Post-Thanksgiving

Apparently, November is National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo — catchy, I know). I decided to break the trend and not post at all during November except for today, the very last day of NaBloPoMo.

Just kidding. Actually, I’ve just been using my spare time to a) practice, b) practice and c) not blog. I could come up with plenty of excuses for the lapse without even trying, but honestly I’ve just been lazy.

But I’ve missed it. Writing helps me not just think more, but think better. There’s something about forcing individual words into coherent strings that both clears and disciplines my mind.

Speaking of disciplining the mind, last week’s Thanksgiving break made me realize that I need to train myself to think thankful thoughts. Gratitude takes intention. It involves consistently remembering where I stand in the great scheme of things and that I don’t deserve any of it. Gratitude should be a distinguishing characteristic of my life; yet if I’m honest with myself, discontentment often takes the front seat.

So in an effort to foster gratitude in my life, I’m making December my blog posting month. Lord willing, each day I’ll post about something I’m grateful for. Hopefully it’ll be a start to a lifelong habit.

Pray for me.
